A Florida woman has been charged with bilking more than $125,000 from a Kentucky school district.

Kentucky State Police from the London Post publicly announced Monday a large theft by deception case that took place at the McCreary County Board of Education.

The investigation began on August 06, 2023.

On August 6, 2023, the Kentucky State Police investigators were contacted by the McCreary County Board of Education regarding a theft by deception of more than $125,000.

The Board of Education had received invoices from a fraudulent source which had the exact appearance as that of a supply company they had recently made purchases from.

After paying the invoice, they discovered the source of the invoice was not from their supply company they had been dealing with.

During the course of the investigation, Kentucky State Police were able to determine the recipient of the ill-gotten funds was a female resident of Florida.

The Kentucky State Police working with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office were able to take Gail Liuzzo of Micanopy, FL, into custody.

McCreary County Sheriff David Sampson made arrangements and his office transported Gail Liuzzo back to McCreary County, where she was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

She will face a charge of Theft by Deception $10,000 or more.

Trooper Craig Reed is continuing this investigation.
