Two-vehicle collision claims life of 81-year-old Kentucky woman

A Monday morning collision claimed the life of an 81-year-old Kentucky woman.

Troopers with Kentucky State Police are investigating the two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Trigg County woman.

Just after 11:30 a.m., KSP received a call from Trigg County Dispatch advising that there was a two vehicle collision on US 68 at the intersection of Merchant Street in Trigg County. Troopers and the collision reconstruction team responded to the scene to investigate the collision.

Initial investigation shows Freda Oakley, 81 of Cadiz, Kentucky was traveling south on Merchant Street, operating a 2014 Chevrolet Impala.

Jamie Gapp, 39 of Cadiz, Kentucky was traveling west on US-68/KY-80, operating a 2016 Ram 1500.

Oakley attempted to cross US-68/KY-80, entering the path of Gapp. Gapp’s vehicle struck the rear driver’s side of Oakley’s vehicle.

Oakley was transported by Trigg County EMS to Trigg County Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Gapp was also transported by Trigg County EMS to Trigg County Hospital for non life threatening injuries. Gapp had an 20 month old juvenile passenger who was properly secured in a rear-facing child restraint device and was taken by a relative to Trigg County Hospital to be checked out. Both Gapp and Oakley were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision.

The investigation is ongoing by Trooper Mike Ray. Kentucky State Police was assisted on scene by Cadiz Police Department, Trigg County Rescue, Trigg County EMS, and Trigg County Sheriff’s Office.
