One person who was transported to the hospital following a deputy-involved shooting on Hunters Trace Saturday afternoon has died.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office requested the Kentucky State Police Post 12 to investigate the shooting which occurred around 2:37 p.m. The investigation is ongoing.

The victim’s name has yet to be released. However, KSP said a male was in critical condition after being transported to Frankfort Regional Medical Center by Frankfort EMS. The Frankfort State Journal has since learned that the male has died.

Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call on Hunters Trace. When they arrived on scene, the male victim allegedly exchanged gunfire with deputies. No law enforcement officers were hurt during the incident, according to Franklin County Sheriff Chris Quire.

“We asked for help from KSP and they were quick to respond,” Quire added.

Hunters Trace is located off Louisville Road just past the Salato Wildlife Education Center in western Franklin County.

“KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local law enforcement agencies,” state police said in a press release. “KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered.”

In addition to KSP and FCSO, the Frankfort Police Department and Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife also responded to the scene. Motorists were asked to avoid the area.

The Franklin County Coroner’s Office is also investigating the death.
