Kentucky man charged with arson after trying to set fire in jail

A Kentucky inmate has been charged with arson after attempting to start a fire to the Wayne County Detention Center.

Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron reports that on October 22, 2021, Wayne County 911 Dispatch received a call at approximately 4:44 pm requesting a deputy to respond to a fire at the detention center.

Upon their arrival the deputies learned the fire was already extinguished. While reviewing the surveillance video the deputies watched inmate James Rose reportedly throwing toilet paper that was already set on fire from his cell into the hallway. Shortly after Rose threw a bag of trash onto the fire., a post on social media said.

The incident occurred in the isolation cells area of the detention center. No other inmates were involved. Rose refused to give any information to the deputies about the incident.

James Rose of Monticello, was charged with arson-1st degree and wanton endangerment-1st degree.
