Kentucky officers couldn’t reach reckless driver in time. Woman dies in fatal collision on interstate.

A 22-year-old Kentucky woman died Tuesday as law enforcement officers were responding to multiple reports of a reckless driver on the interstate.

Shyanne Adkins, 22, of Jefferson County, lost control of her vehicle and collided with a guardrail off the right shoulder of the roadway. on Interstate 64. The vehicle then traveled back onto the travel portion of the roadway and rear-ended another vehicle then collided with a second guardrail.

The Franklin County coroner was called to the scene shortly after 2 p.m. Adkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident occurred east of the Kentucky River Bridge on I-64 East. Both lanes of Interstate 64 East at Exit 53B (Lawrenceburg/Frankfort) were closed following a two-car motor vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon.

According to Kentucky State Police, the agency investigating the accident, a red 2005 Dodge Magnum crashed into a guardrail and the driver was ejected.

Dispatch records indicate law enforcement received more than one reckless driving complaint regarding the vehicle before the collision. Sgt. Bernie Napier, KSP Post 12, said the vehicle crashed before law enforcement could catch up to it.

The interstate reopened around 4:40 p.m.

KSP was assisted at the scene by the FCSO, Franklin County Fire and EMS and the Franklin County Coroner.
