Kentucky police say a gun seized in a recent shooting investigation has been linked to another shooting that injured a 5-year-old child who was hit by gunfire while sleeping.

Georgetown Police posted on Facebook that an investigation into shots fired on March 27 led to the discovery.

“On March 27, 2021, we investigated a report of shots fired at the Overlook at Elkhorn Creek Apartments. The shots were fired from the apartment located at 206 River Chase Path #10, and rounds went into the apartments next door,” the post states.

When officers arrived at the scene, the occupants of the apartment had left. Officers were able to seize a “significant amount of marijuana and several weapons.”

“Detectives continued to work this investigation along with the Lexington Metro Police Department and our partners with the ATF, and linked a firearm we seized to a shooting in Lexington,” the post said. “During that shooting, an innocent 5-year-old child was struck by rounds that were shot into the home where the child was sleeping.”

The report did not give any more details about the shooting that involved the child.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that in December 2020, 5-year-old Malakai Roberts was asleep in bed with his mom when shots were fired into their home on Catera Trace in Lexington. The incident left Roberts blind.
