One juvenile is dead after he and another teen driving dirt bikes collided with a vehicle on U.S. 421 Sunday.

The four-vehicle accident on US 421 North in the Manchester area of Clay County was reported by Kentucky State Police. The accident happened Sunday evening shortly after 6 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates that two dirt bikes operated by two male juveniles, one 16 years old of Manchester, and the other operated by a male juvenile, 17, also of Manchester, were reportedly traveling southbound when they struck a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe that was traveling northbound on US 421.  A fourth vehicle, a 2009 GMC pickup, was also traveling southbound of US 421. Due to the smoke of the first collision, the operator of GMC was unable to see or avoid striking the Chevrolet Tahoe.

The 16-year-old juvenile was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Clay County Coroner’s Office.  The 17-year-old male juvenile was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

The juveniles were reportedly not wearing helmets. Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be involved.
