A Kentucky man will spend 65 years in prison for shooting into a house and paralyzing a sleeping Lexington girl who was 11 years old girl at the time.
Carlos Jenkins was resentenced Wednesday and was given the maximum allowable sentence – 65 years in prison.
Jenkins’ case went to the Kentucky Supreme Court which ruled in September that Jenkins needed to be resentenced after the court rejected his persistent felony offender status. His conviction stood, but the original sentence of life plus 50 years was thrown out.
The victim, Amya Catching, was only 11 years old in 2017 when the shooting occurred. She was sleeping inside the home when it was riddled with bullets.
