Three people were killed in wrong-way crash on Interstate 75 in southern Kentucky, officials said.

The crash happened late Monday in the southbound lanes near Exit 38, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The crash was caused by a wrong-way driver headed north in a pickup truck that slammed head-on into a vehicle heading south, the London Police Department said in a Facebook post. All three of the occupants in the southbound vehicle were killed, police said. The driver of the pickup was taken to a hospital.

Southbound lanes were closed for hours after the crash, but reopened Tuesday morning, WYMT-TV reported.
