Kentucky State Police release name of suspect killed in officer-involved shooting

The Kentucky State Police have released the name of the man shot and killed by an officer at a Danville hotel on July 6.

Shelby Ray Hardin, 33, of Danville was reportedly holding his mother hostage at knifepoint at the Danville Super Motel 8, according to Kentucky State Police.

Danville police officer Kyle Lyons reportedly shot and killed Hardin after Hardin refused to comply with commands to the knife and release his mother.

Hardin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Boyle County Coroner.

Lyons has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in cases of officer-involved shootings. He has been a veteran law enforcement officer for 13 years.
