A sheriff’s deputy was wounded in a struggle with a person who charged him Wednesday, Kentucky State Police said.

A Wolfe County deputy encountered an armed male subject, who fled on foot, police said. During a pursuit, the person charged the deputy, and they struggled over the deputy’s agency-issued firearm, police said in a news release.

The deputy was shot during the struggle and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the release said. The other person, who wasn’t injured, was arrested, police said.

Their names were not released.
