The reported invasion of a Kentucky home has resulted in the death of the alleged intruder.

Hopkinsville police report that they were dispatched to South Vine Street just after midnight Thursday. When officers arrived, they were met with the resident of the house and another witness, according to a report from WKYT News.

The resident reportedly told police that an armed man broke into the house and was still inside.

When officers went into the house, they discovered the dead body of the intruder.

After interviewing the homeowner and witness, police believe a struggle ensued, during which the victim was pistol-whipped and the alleged intruder’s gun was discharged. At one point during the struggle, the victim said he was able to choke the suspect.

Police say that have not determined what killed the man inside the house, but that it appears after if the resident and the witness acted in self-defense.

The cause of death is still under investigation.
