Shooting death of Kentucky teen investigated as murder

The Kentucky State Police (KSP) is investigating a shooting that killed a Hopkins County teen on Tuesday morning.

Close to 1:19 a.m., the KSP Post 2 in Madisonville was requested by the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department to investigate a shooting on Hosick Avenue in Dawson Springs.

According to KSP, early findings showed that Dakota Carter, 16, of Dawson Springs had suffered a gunshot wound. He was first taken to Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville, then was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee where he passed away from his injuries.
