Kentucky officials launched an investigation after a homeowner reported finding what appeared to be human bones in his backyard.

The Kentucky State Police received a call from Martin County Sheriff’s Office on Monday requesting KSP’s assistance regarding the investigation of possible human remains found in the Tomahawk community of Martin County.

According to a report from WSAZ News, a Kentucky homeowner called the sheriff’s office after his grandson found the possible human bones while hunting for arrowheads.

KSP investigators responded to the residence on South Milo Road where they inspected the possible human remains in a wooded area behind the residence. The area was secured until additional investigators could return during daylight hours to conduct a secondary search. The Martin County Coroner will transport the remains to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort, KY for possible identification.

Detective Tony Tackett is leading the investigation. He was assisted on scene by KSP personnel, Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Martin County Coroner’s Office, and Boyd County Coroner’s Office.
