Woman killed, officer injured in central Kentucky crash

A woman was killed and a police officer injured in a crash early Monday in central Kentucky, officials said.

The collision was reported around 1:30 a.m. in Lexington as officers responded to numerous calls of a vehicle traveling the wrong way on New Circle Road, police said in a statement. It doesn’t appear that the police car involved in the crash had been responding to reports about the vehicle, the statement said.

Lexington firefighters arrived and extricated both drivers, who were taken to a local hospital.

The 38-year-old woman was pronounced dead, police said. The officer remained hospitalized in serious condition.

Lexington police were continuing to investigate the crash and asked anyone with information to contact the agency.
