Kentucky teen falls 20 feet off cliff on hiking trail, airlifted to hospital

A Kentucky teen had to be airlifted to a hospital after he fell 20 feet off of a cliff on an Illinois hiking trail Monday.

Officials from Jackson County, Illinois, say a father and son from Louisville were hiking part of the Little Grand Canyon Hiking Trail near Murphysboro. The 14-year-old son was reportedly walking near a waterfall when he slipped and fell over the cliff Monday morning.

Several local emergency agencies and the U.S. Forest Service responded to the accident which occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m.

The teen was airlifted to a St. Louis, Missouri, area hospital, where his condition was unknown Monday afternoon.
