Three people were killed and two injured in a three-vehicle crash Thursday, Kentucky State Police said.

The wreck happened around 11:30 a.m. in McLean County on Kentucky 81, news outlets reported.

A northbound sport utility vehicle and a dump truck heading south sideswiped, Trooper Corey King told the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer. King said it was not known which vehicle encroached.

The SUV went into the southbound lane and hit a southbound car, King said.

The driver of the SUV was killed. A woman and a child in the car died at the scene, the trooper said. Two others in the car were taken to hospitals. The dump truck driver was not injured.

Names of the people involved weren’t immediately released.

The road was expected to be closed several hours.
