One person has died in a plane crash in western Kentucky, officials said.

The plane crashed Monday evening in a field near the airport in Graves County, just north of Interstate 69, the Graves County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The body of the pilot was recovered from the wreckage, Sheriff Jon Hayden told news outlets. He said the pilot was the only person in the aircraft. The person’s identity will be released after next of kin is notified, the sheriff’s statement said.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate what caused the crash, officials said.
