A Kentucky sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a suspect who charged at him with knives, police said Friday in a statement.

Two deputies from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office were investigating a tip that a wanted man was at a residence in Caneyville, Kentucky State Police said in the statement. Deputies found Brian Abbott, 34, inside the home Thursday night armed with two knives and ordered him to drop the weapons multiple times.

Abbott charged toward the deputies and one fired, striking him three times, the statement said.

Abbott was pronounced dead at the scene by the Grayson County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy was scheduled Friday at the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.

Neither deputy was injured and both were placed on routine administrative leave, police said.

No further information was immediately released. Police said the investigation was continuing.
